U District, Let’s Go half way through pilot
Believe it or not, U District, Let’s Go has been on the ground doing programming for six months! “That age old saying, time flies when you are having fun really rings true.” Said Miriam Castro, Program Manager with U District, Let’s Go. “It seems like only yesterday that we held our neighborhood kick off walk in January with Councilmember Rob Johnson. We’ve done so much since then.”
Since program inception, a lot has happened, the program has engaged with thousands of people through events like the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, University Street Fair, Ride Transit Month and through their monthly Coffee & a LIFT enrollment events, where to date, the program has connected over 130 people to Metro’s ORCA LIFT transit pass. “You name it, we’re out there connecting with people.” Said Castro.
“We’ve been really successful building and capitalizing on partnerships. A great example of that is what we did for Bike Month. We held an event called Ride to a Flick. We partnered with Scarecrow Video, where we held the event, an adjacent business, Hardmill, hosted our bicycle valet, UW Transportation Services for lent us their bicycle valet equipment, Bicycle Security Advocates was on hand registering bicycles into Bike Index, and Cascade Bicycle Club, that runs Bike Month, supported our efforts. It’s amazing to connect everyone through transportation and mobility.” Said Castro.
With only a few more months of programming left during this pilot phase, U District, Let’s Go want’s to make sure you know where to find them.
Check out their calendar of events. Here are ways to ensure you can stay in the know:
The program is currently looking for ways to continue programming beyond the pilot phase. “We’ve invested a lot of time, energy and resources into our work.” Said Castro. “Transportation impacts people, connects us to jobs, school, services and anywhere else we need to be. People shouldn’t have to own a car to get around. This is about equitable access to mobility.” Said Castro. “This needs to continue.” If you are interested in joining the conversation on how this program can endure, connect with Miriam at miriam@transportationchoices.org
